Henkel Linked to Osis Grip Packaging Recall

In August 2026, Henkel Corporation of Rocky Hill, CT, issued a nationwide recall for 25 lots of Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip Mousse. The recall was announced after the company received complaints about a “packaging imperfection” that could result in injuries when the aluminum cans explode or rupture.

The recall covers 25 specific lots of the 6.76 fl. oz/200 ml size of the product (see the recall notice for specific lot codes and refund information).

The recalled product was sold to consumers and haircare professionals through 21 distributors. It was available in retail stores for individual consumers, but also sold directly to salons and hair stylists, including in Texas.

What Is the Defect?

Henkel decided to issue the voluntary recall after 1 consumer reported suffering a bruised hand when a can exploded. There were also 2 complaints from salons about the defective cans.

Henkel warned that the “packaging imperfection” in the can might allow the mousse to leak under pressure. This leak may create a risk of explosion. Highly-pressurized cans that rupture at a seal could suddenly release pressurized mousse very forcefully, without any warning to the person holding the can.

This type of incident could result in injuries, such as bruising, cuts from can fragments, or chemical exposure if the product sprays into the eyes or skin. One consumer reported bruising to their hand.

Where Were They Sold?

The recalled cans of Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip Extra Strong Mousse were sold in Texas and 11 other states, including Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Washington.
