According to the recall:

“The pressure washer’s capacitor can overheat and burst, causing parts to be forcefully ejected, posing a risk of serious injury from impact to the user or bystanders.”

What is the Safety Risk?

The pressure washers were recalled after the manufacturer received 135 reports of the capacitor overheating and bursting, including 41 reports of explosions. These explosions resulted in 32 injury reports.

What is a Pressure Washer Capacitor?

The capacitor is a small electrical part on a pressure washer that helps regulate voltage and current that is supplied to the motor. This helps ensure that the motor receives the correct amount of power.

The capacitor looks like a small cylinder, and it works like a temporary battery to store energy, and release energy as needed, to help the motor run more smoothly and efficiently.

What Types of Injuries Were Reported?

The Ryobi Pressure Washers were recalled after 32 injuries, such as:

  • Projectile injuries
