CPSC Warns Consumers to Stop Using Ridstar E-Bikes
In March 2026, federal safety officials issued a formal product safety warning for Ridstar Q20 e-bikes due to a serious fire hazard. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) urged all consumers to immediately stop using Ridstar Q20 and Q20 Pro e-bikes after 11 reports of fires and other incidents were linked to the battery and wiring.
Did Ridstar Issue a Recall?
No. Instead of a traditional recall, the CPSC took the proactive step of issuing a public warning because the manufacturer in China — Huizhou Xingqishi Sporting Goods Co., Ltd. — refused to agree to an acceptable recall. So unfortunately, consumers are not eligible for a refund or replacement.
The e-bikes were sold on Amazon.com, Walmart.com, and Ridstar.net.
What is the Fire Hazard?
Ridstar Q20 and Q20 Pro e-bikes contain lithium-ion batteries and wiring that can potentially ignite and catch on fire. This poses a serious risk of injury, death, and property damage. The CPSC explained:
“The e-bikes’ batteries and wires can ignite, posing a fire hazard to consumers. CPSC is aware of 11 reports of fire, including one burn injury, five reports of smoke inhalation, and two reports of property damage totaling over $40,000.”
Lithium-ion batteries that are defectively manufactured or have faulty wiring can overheat and enter a state called thermal runaway. Thermal runaway is a dangerous chain-reaction that generates intense heat due to highly-flammable chemicals in the battery. This fire is nearly impossible to stop once it starts, and in many cases, it only goes out when the fuel source is depleted.
How Many People Were Injured?
The CPSC has documented the following incidents linked to Ridstar Q20 and Q20 Pro e-bikes:
-
- 11 fires reported
-
- 1 burn injury
-
- 5 cases of smoke inhalation
-
- 2 incidents of property damage totaling more than $40,000
Ridstar e-bikes were sold online nationwide on Amazon.com and Walmart.com, and it is possible that some innocent consumers in Texas purchased these budget e-bikes, not knowing the potential fire hazard.
Which E-Bikes Are Affected?
Consumers can identify these e-bikes with the following information:
-
- Brand: Ridstar (brand name printed directly on the battery)
-
- Models: Q20 and Q20 Pro (model number may appear on the original purchase receipt)
-
- Color: Black
-
- Sold at: Amazon.com, Walmart.com, and Ridstar.net
-
- Manufactured by: Huizhou Xingqishi Sporting Goods Co., Ltd., China
What Should I Do?
If you own one of these e-bikes, the CPSC urges you to remove the battery immediately and dispose of it through your local hazardous waste (HHW) collection center. Do not throw the battery in the trash or a dumpster, and do not sell or give it away.
Legal Help for Texas E-Bike Owners
E-bikes have surged in popularity across Texas. Budget-priced e-bikes sold on Amazon and Walmart are especially common because of their low cost and easy availability, but as this situation shows, bargain price tags can come with serious hidden dangers like defective batteries, faulty wiring, and fire hazards. These dangers put an innocent consumers’ life at risk.
When an e-bike’s battery or wiring ignites, the consequences can be severe. Lithium-ion battery fires burn extremely hot, spread quickly, and are difficult to extinguish. A fire that starts in a garage, apartment, or storage area can rapidly engulf surrounding property. Riders or anyone nearby when a battery ignites can suffer painful burns, smoke inhalation, or worse.
Texas families who purchased Ridstar Q20 or Q20 Pro e-bikes and were burned, suffered smoke inhalation, or sustained property damage may have legal claims against the manufacturer and the retailers who continued selling these products.
