UPDATE: FDA Orders Destruction of All Real Water Products

In May 2021, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against Real Water and ordered the destruction of all Real Water® products. Federal officials allege that sanitation failures led to an outbreak of liver illnesses, including one death and another person who needed a liver transplant.

1st Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed Against Real Water Inc.

Real Water Inc. has been hit with a wrongful death lawsuit that was filed by the sister of a 69-year old woman who died of liver failure and pneumonia after drinking upwards of 64-oz of Real Water® every day for years, according to the Las-Vegas Review Journal.

Nevada Officials Link Real Water to 11 Cases of Hepatitis

On April 26, the Southern Nevada Health District issued an update after linking Real Water Alkaline Water with 11 probable cases of hepatitis (liver inflammation) in Nevada. No one needed a liver transplant, but the most common symptoms were nausea, vomiting, fatigue, loss of appetite, and dizziness.

Real Water Hit With More Class Actions

Real Water Inc. is now facing multiple lawsuits, including a federal class action, a state-court lawsuit seeking class action status in Nevada, and an individual lawsuit from a Nevada man who needed a liver transplant in September 2019.

On March 24, Real Water CEO Brent Jones issued a precautionary recall for all sizes of Real Water® drinking water and asked stores to pull it off shelves nationwide.

On March 16, 2021, the Southern Nevada Health District issued a warning about cases of liver damage (“acute non-vital hepatitis”) linked to Real Water® Alkaline Water.

5 Children Hospitalized After Drinking Real Alkalized Water

In November 2020, at least 5 children in Nevada had to be hospitalized due to non-viral hepatitis, or sudden liver inflammation.

The children were from 4 separate households. In two of those households, another 3 children and 2 adults had less severe symptoms of liver damage.

Real Water® Alkaline Water was the only common link among all of the cases of liver damage and hepatitis, according to health officials.

Las Vegas Family Files 1st Lawsuit Against Real Water

The first lawsuit has been filed against Real Water Inc. by a family from Las Vegas, Nevada, who were sickened by drinking Real Alkalized Water (also known as “Real Water® Alkaline Water).

The lawsuit was filed by Christopher and Emely W., parents of a 2 year-old boy who was airlifted to a hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, in November 2020. The boy was hospitalized due to liver malfunction.

Around that same time, Christopher was also hospitalized in Las Vegas with extremely high levels of a liver enzyme called ALT, which made him a candidate for an emergency liver transplant. His wife, Emely, suffered from extreme nausea, fatigue, and high ALT levels.

The Real Water Lawsuit was filed on March 16, 2021 against AffinityLifestyles.com Inc., doing business as Real Water Inc., in the District Court for Clark County, Nevada — Case Number A-21-831169-B.

FDA Investigates, Warns People Not to Drink ‘Real Water’ for Now

The FDA also said it was opening an investigation because Real Water® Alkalized Water is sold in many states, and the FDA regulates bottled water. The agency is asking people not to “drink, cook with, sell, or serve ‘Real Water’ alkaline water” during the investigation.
