What is the PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer?

The PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer® is a waffle maker that makes 2″-thick Belgian waffles with sweet or savory fillings. It was sold nationwide in major stores like Walmart and Target from July 2021 through October 2022 by the ‘As Seen On TV’ company.

Stuffed Waffle Makers Recalled After 34 People Burned

In May 2023, Empower Brands (also known as Tristar Products) recalled 456,000 PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer® Waffle Makers after 34 people were burned by hot food that exploded out when they opened the lid.

What is the Risk?

When the lid is latched, pressure can build up inside the waffle maker due to the burning-hot food and steam. If a person opens the lid, extremely hot food can explode out and cause severe burn injuries.

Dozens of Burn Injuries Linked to Waffle Makers

The manufacturer said it received 44 reports of incidents where hot food blew out of the PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer, including 34 people who were burned. Three burned people had to get medical attention.

List of Recalled PowerXL Stuffed Waffle Makers

The recall includes two sizes of the PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer® Waffle Makers: Model ESWM02 (five inch) and Model ESWM03 (seven inch).

They came in 11 colors and all of them have a “PowerXL” logo on top of the lid. There is also a tag attached to the power cord where you can find the model and date code. The recall includes all date codes.

They were sold nationwide from July 2021 through October 2022 at Walmart, Kohls, Big Lots, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Best Buy, The Home Depot, Target, Sam’s Club, other stores and online for $30 to $60.

Do I Qualify to File a Lawsuit?

If you or a loved one were burned by the PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer Waffle Makers, you may qualify to file a lawsuit and seek compensation for your injuries, medical expenses, permanent injuries (such as scarring or disfigurement), lost income, and more.

The manufacturer, Tristar Products, is already facing a large number of lawsuits involving the Power Pressure Cooker XL, a product that is also linked to serious burn injuries when consumers opened the lid.

Can I Get a Refund?

The manufacturer is NOT offering a refund for the PowerXL Stuffed Waffle Maker. Instead, consumers can register on a website at https://recall.prodprotect.com/wafflizer to get a new latch adapter clip.
