Power XL Self-Cleaning Juicers Recalled After 47 People Injured

In June 2023, more than 469,000 Power XL Self-Cleaning Juicers were recalled after dozens of people were injured when the juicers exploded, or they swallowed particle shavings in their juice and needed medical treatment.

Safety Risks Linked to Power XL Juicers

  • Cuts and lacerations
  • Bleeding
  • Bruises
  • Needing stitches
  • Life-long scarring or disfigurement
  • Swallowing particle shavings
  • Internal injuries
  • Intestinal damage
  • Hospitalization
  • Needing emergency medical treatment for injuries

What is the Problem?

The juicers can rupture or explode during use and hit people with jagged pieces. This poses a risk of severe cuts and other injuries.

Another problem is that the juicers can shave off small particles that can get into the juice. If consumers swallow the shavings, they may suffer severe internal injuries that require medical attention.

What Happened?

The manufacturers, Tristar Products and Empower Brands, recalled the juicers after 271 incidents were reported, including 47 injuries.

These injuries included “severe cuts requiring emergency treatment, stitches, bruises, and ingestion of small particles requiring medical attention,” the manufacturers said.

What Juicers Were Recalled?

The recall involves Power XL Self-Cleaning Juicers (Models SHL90-SC and SHL96) that were sold from September 2020 to August 2022.

Model SHL90-SC has UPC 7-52356-83138-7 and it was sold at Walmart and other stores nationwide.

Model SHL96 has UPC 7-52356-83067-0. The juicer was sold at BJ’s Wholesale Club, CVS, Kohl’s, Marshall’s, Target, T.J. Maxx, Walmart, Amazon.com, and other stores.
