November 26, 2023 — A Texas oil worker is lucky to be alive after surviving being impaled by a 50-foot pipe at an oil field in Wichita County.
Sheriff David Duke said that multiple agencies responded to the scene of the accident just after 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, at an oil field located off of Highway 25.
First responders arrived to find a man who had been impaled by a 50-foot section of pipe, which had hit his shoulder and exited below the belt. Miraculously, the pipe didn’t hit any of his major organs or bones.
The pipe buried itself 3 feet in the ground and another 40 feet was still above him. Rescuers cut away most of it, but he was still unable to fit into an Air Evac. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital with part of the pipe still inside his body, where he underwent surgery.
His wife told KXAN News that surgeons expect muscle damage to be the only complication of the incident.
The cause of the oil field accident is still under investigation, according to local officials.
