March 25, 2020 — Federal safety officials have levied a $48,000 fine against the Pioneer rig company after 2 workers were injured in a fire last year.

The fire occurred on Friday, September 6, 2019, at around 8:00 a.m. when a tank exploded at a Block T Petroleum site in Henderson County, Texas.

The fire was contained by 11:30 a.m. by multiple fire departments from Henderson County, Coffee City, and Chandler.

Two employees of the Pioneer rig company were airlifted to a hospital in Dallas. Both men suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The scene of the accident was located just off FM 317 outside Chandler, Texas. Smoke from the burning tank was seen for miles.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) investigated the fire and issued four separate fines of $12,145, for a total of $48,580.
