KTM North America Linked to Rear Brake Caliper Failure

In August 2026, the CPSC announced a recall for about 21,040 GASGAS and Husqvarna off-road motorcycles. No injuries were reported, but the off-road motorcycles may have reduced braking effectiveness. The recall includes motorcycles from model-years 2021 through 2024. Another 4,140 motorcycles were also recalled in Canada.

What is the Problem?

The motorcycles were recalled because the rear brake caliper can crack or break. This reduces the effectiveness of the brake system, which may increase the risk of a crash.

What Is the Rear Brake Caliper Defect?

The recall issue was traced to a structural weakness in the primary pin casting of the J.Juan/Braktec rear brake caliper. If the crack spreads, the caliper can break. KTM said it received reports of vehicles with a cracked pin in March 2024. The root cause was confirmed in November 2024. The solution is a redesigned bracket with a wider pin area, which dealers will install for free on affected motorcycles.

• Husqvarna: TE 150, TE 150i, TE 250, TE 250i, TE 300, TE 300i, FE 350, FE 350w, FE 450, FE 501, FE 501w, FX 350, FX 450, TX 300, plus Heritage trims (model years 2022 to 2024)
• GASGAS: EC 250, EC 300, EC 450F, EX 250, EX 250F, EX 300, EX 350F, EX 450F, EW 500F, MC 125, MC 250, MC 250F, MC 350F, MC 450F (model years 2021 to 2024)
• VIN located on the right side of the steering head

Where Were They Sold?

They were sold at authorized GASGAS and Husqvarna dealers nationwide from September 2020 through June 2023. If you own one of these bikes, stop riding it and confirm your VIN on the manufacturer’s recall check tool.
