What is the Problem?

This recall involves the nvyue Magic Pocket Staff, a pocket gadget that can quickly expand to a full-size staff. Unfortunately, it can suddenly expand with so much force that it is impossible to avoid suffering a serious injury. According to the CPSC recall notice:

“The protective pin mechanism on the Magic Pocket Staffs can fail to prevent unintentional expansion, posing serious projectile and laceration hazards. Even when engaged, the expansion occurs too rapidly for consumers to react, leaving virtually no opportunity for protection.

If your child was struck in the eye before either of you had any chance to react, that experience is consistent with what the CPSC documented in dozens of other cases across the country.

What Was Recalled and When?

On April 16, 2026, Xingwenfeng, the Chinese importer of nvyue Magic Pocket Staffs, voluntarily recalled approximately 25,000 units in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall covers staffs sold in gold, silver, or black, in expanded lengths of either 110cm or 150cm.

All 25,000 recalled staffs were sold exclusively on Amazon.com from September 2020 through March 2026 for between $8 and $26. If you or your child purchased one of these staffs on Amazon during that period, it is covered by this recall. Texans who ordered this product online from Amazon are among those affected.

What Makes These Staffs Dangerous?

The protective pin mechanism on the Magic Pocket Staffs can fail to prevent unintentional expansion, posing serious projectile and laceration hazards. Even when the pin appears to be fully engaged, the expansion occurs too rapidly for consumers to react, leaving virtually no opportunity for protection.

The staffs are sold in a tightly compressed cylinder. In many cases, the CPSC found the pin was not fully engaged at the time of sale, meaning the risk of sudden, violent deployment was present from the moment the product was removed from its packaging. When these staffs launch unexpectedly, they strike the face, eyes, and hands at close range with no warning.

How Many People Were Injured by the nvyue Magic Pocket Staff?

The CPSC received 163 reports of incidents involving injuries to the eyes, face, and hands. Nationally, confirmed injuries include corneal lacerations, temporary vision loss, and wounds serious enough to require stitches.

163 reported incidents is an exceptionally high number for a product recall involving roughly 25,000 units. Many of the victims are children, some as young as 9 years old. The product was widely marketed as a performance toy or fidget item, making it especially appealing to children and teens in Texas and across the country.

Who Is Responsible?

Xingwenfeng, the Chinese importer, is the company that announced this recall. However, all 25,000 of these staffs were sold through Amazon.com, which may also carry liability as the retail seller of a defective product under Texas product liability law.

What Should Texans Do With the Recalled Staff?

The CPSC instructs consumers to stop using the recalled staff immediately. To receive a full refund, contact Xingwenfeng and follow their instructions: write your initials and the current date on the staff in permanent marker, photograph it, and email the photo to nvyue_recall@163.com. You will then be told how to safely expand the staff before disposing of it.

Do not give the staff away or sell it. Federal law prohibits the sale or transfer of recalled consumer products.

Legal Help for Injured Texans

Texans who were injured by the nvyue Magic Pocket Staff may have legal options. Eye injuries, facial lacerations, and hand wounds can require emergency care, specialist follow-up, and extended recovery, particularly for children. If your family faced those kinds of medical costs and suffering as a result of a defective product, a product liability lawyer may be able to help you pursue compensation.
