April 2020 — Amneal Pharmaceuticals recalled 3 lots of liquid Nizatidine Oral Solution (15 mg/mL) packaged in 480-mL bottles due to contamination with NDMA. The recall involves the following 3 lots of liquid nizatidine:

Mylan Pharmaceuticals Recalls Nizatidine After Tests Find Carcinogen

January 2020 — Mylan Pharmaceuticals issued a voluntary recall for 3 lots of the ulcer medication Nizatidine (including 150-mg and 300-mg dosages) after tests detected “trace amounts” of contamination with NDMA.

The recall involves batches of nizatidine that were distributed from June 2017 through August 2018. The following 3 lots were recalled:

What is NDMA?

NDMA (N-nitrosodimethylamine) is a toxic substance that is classified as a “probable human carcinogen” by the World Health Organization’s cancer-research agency. It is an impurity that is created by chemical reactions during the drug-making process. It is also commonly found in water and foods, such as meat, dairy products, and vegetables.

What is Nizatidine?

Nizatidine is the generic version of Azor®. It is used for the short-term treatment of stomach ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It may be used for up to a year in certain ulcer patients. Nizatidine is also used to treat esophagitis and heartburn due to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
