In May 2025, SharkNinja recalled over 1.8 million Ninja Foodi Multi-Function Pressure Cookers / TenderCrisp Air Fryers due to a risk of severe burn injuries when people are able to open the lid while it is still pressurized.
There were 106 reports of burn injuries, including more than 50 reports of people who suffered severe 2nd- or 3rd-degree burn injuries to their face or body, with 26 lawsuits filed for burn injuries.
The recall involves all OP-300 Series Ninja Pressure Cookers / TenderCrisp Air Fryers that were sold nationwide at Walmart, Costco, Sam’s Club, Amazon, Target, and online from January 2019 through March 2025.

Pressure Cooker Lawsuits
A growing number of lawsuits have been filed by people who were severely burned when an electric pressure cooker exploded boiling liquid, sticky food, and scalding steam.
In many cases, these serious accidents involve products that were advertised as having “safety features” — such as a locking lid — that were supposed to prevent explosions of food.
Hazards of Pressure Cooker Explosions
Pressure cooker explosions can be catastrophic. Anyone standing nearby will be covered in sticky food that can cause 3rd-degree burns. These burn injuries are extremely painful and may require hospitalization, skin graft surgery and debridement, or cause scarring.
Types of Injuries from Exploding Pressure Cookers
Some of the most serious injuries from exploding pressure cookers include:
- Burns
- Steam scalds
- Blindness or vision loss
