Nexgrill Wire Brushes Recalled After 5 Ingestion Injuries Reported
In March 2026, Nexgrill Industries recalled over 10.2 million metal wire bristle grill brushes in cooperation with the CPSC. The recall was issued because small metal wire bristles can detach from the brushes and stick to the grill or food, posing an ingestion hazard and the risk of serious internal injuries that could require surgery.
Nexgrill stated it made the decision “out of an abundance of caution” in partnership with the CPSC. The brushes were sold at Home Depot stores and on homedepot.com from 2015 through 2026 for between approximately $5 and $15.
What Is the Defect?
The CPSC describes the hazard in the official recall notice as follows:
“Small metal wire bristles can detach from the brushes and stick to the grill or food, posing an ingestion hazard and risk of serious internal injuries that could require surgery.”
Medical experts have long warned that wire bristles shed from grill brushes are nearly impossible to see on dark grill grates or in food. Once a bristle is swallowed, the thin metal wire can embed in soft tissue in the mouth or throat, or travel deeper into the gastrointestinal tract, where it may perforate the bowel and require emergency surgery to remove.
How Many People Were Injured?
According to the CPSC, Nexgrill received at least 68 reports of bristles detaching from the recalled brushes nationally. Of those, 5 consumers swallowed metal bristles and sought medical treatment to have them removed from their throat or digestive tract.
CPSC incident reports are widely recognized as undercounting actual cases. Many consumers who swallow a metal bristle may attribute their throat or stomach pain to something else entirely, never connecting it to their grill brush.
Which Nexgrill Brushes Are Recalled?
The recall covers 6 models of Nexgrill metal wire bristle grill brushes with black plastic or wood handles measuring between 18 and 21 inches long. Affected model numbers, found on the product packaging, are:
- 530-0024
- 530-0024G
- 530-0034
- 530-0039
- 530-0041
- 530-0042
Each brush includes the word “Nexgrill” on the product. The brushes were sold exclusively at Home Depot locations and homedepot.com.
Where Were They Sold in Texas?
The recalled Nexgrill brushes were available at Home Depot locations across Texas, including stores in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth, and hundreds of additional communities statewide. With Home Depot’s extensive presence throughout Texas, a large number of Texans may own one of the recalled models.
Grilling is a year-round activity in Texas, and these brushes were sold continuously from 2015 through 2026 — meaning Texans may have had a recalled brush in their garage or on their back porch for years without knowing it was dangerous.
Previous Recalls of Wire Grill Brushes
The Nexgrill recall is not an isolated event. In February 2026, the CPSC announced a recall of more than 3.2 million Weber metal wire bristle grill brushes for the same hazard, following at least 38 reports of bristles detaching and 4 cases requiring medical treatment.
Safety agencies and emergency physicians have been warning consumers about wire grill brush dangers for years. The recurring pattern of large-scale recalls underscores that this hazard is a known, industry-wide problem — not an isolated defect.
What Should Texans Do?
Texans who own any of the recalled Nexgrill brushes should stop using them immediately. To receive a full refund issued as a Nexgrill gift card, contact Nexgrill toll-free at 800-942-1498 (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET) or register at the Nexgrill recall registration website. You will receive a registration code and be directed to upload a photo of the brush with your initials. Do not discard the brush until your registration is confirmed, as a photo is required.
Safety officials recommend replacing wire grill brushes with bristle-free alternatives such as nylon brushes, metal grill scrapers, or cleaning stones.
Legal Help for Injured Texans
Texas is home to millions of grill owners, and Home Depot’s statewide presence means the recalled brushes were sold in every major Texas market for over a decade. Texans from Houston to El Paso may have one of the 6 recalled Nexgrill models at home right now.
When a recalled product is linked to internal injuries serious enough to require medical intervention or surgery, Texas victims may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages. Time limits apply to product liability claims in Texas, and the sooner you contact a lawyer, the better your options may be.
A Texas product recall lawyer can help you evaluate whether you have a claim and what it may be worth.
