FDA Warns About Seizures, Hospitalization, Death
The FDA has received reports of people who suffered severe side effects after using Neptune’s Fix or other tianeptine products, including seizures, loss of consciousness requiring hospitalization, and death.
Tianeptine is NOT Approved for Any Medical Use
The FDA has issued multiple previous warnings for tianeptine. In 2022, the agency warned that tianeptine is not approved for “any medical use” and it is NOT an approved dietary supplement.
Even so, tianeptine is commonly advertised as a supplement for pain and health issues, or as a mood-booster or “cognitive enhancer.”
Where Do People Buy Tianeptine?
Tianeptine is sold online under various names, such as Tianaa, Zaza, and others. Tianeptine is also sold as a prescription drug in certain European countries, Latin America, and Asia under the names Coaxil, Stablon, or Tatinol, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Lawmakers Call on FDA to Restrict Tianeptine Nationwide
In the U.S., tianeptine has been banned or restricted by 9 states, including: Alabama, Michigan, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, Indiana, Ohio, Florida, and Kentucky.
Lawmakers are also requesting FDA action to restrict tianeptine nationwide. According to a letter from Congressman Jeff Jackson
“The urgent need for FDA action on tianeptine cannot be overstated. It is vital to support legislative or administrative initiatives that strengthen FDA oversight and provide states greater ability to protect our communities from the dangers posed by unregulated substances like tianeptine.”
