February 22, 2023 — A lawsuit has been filed by a mother who says her daughter was seriously burned by a Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker that exploded.
The plaintiff, Tammy M., is a woman from Tomball, Texas, who claims that her daughter suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” while using the Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker on February 17, 2021.
According to the lawsuit, “The pressure cooker’s lid suddenly blew off the pot in an explosive manner. The contents of the pressure cooker were forcefully ejected out of the pot and onto Plaintiff, causing severe, disfiguring burns.”
She accuses SharkNinja Operating LLC, the manufacturer of the Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker, of misleading her about the safety features.
Specifically, the Owner’s Manual stated that the product was built with “14 safety features,” including a locking lid that was supposed to prevent it from being opened until the unit “completely depressurized.”
Instead, she claims that the lid on Ninja Foodi Pressure Cookers can be rotated and opened when it is pressurized, making the products “unreasonably dangerous for their intended use by consumers.”
The lawsuit also claims that SharkNinja’s safety claims are not only misleading, they are flatly wrong, and put consumers in harm’s way.
She is seeking damages for her daughter’s serious bodily injuries, medical expenses, physical pain and mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, and more.
Her lawsuit was filed against SharkNinja Operating LLC on February 14, 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas (Houston Division) — Case Number 4:23-cv-00535.
