April 15, 2021 — A judge in Texas has awarded $1.7 million to the mother of a 27-year-old man who died after he was hit by a delivery driver as he crossed a street.
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Bobby Joe J., a man who was walking to his apartment on April 2, 2019, in Conroe, Texas.
Tragically, as he crossed the street, he was hit by a delivery driver for the Golden Chopsticks restaurant in Woodlands, Texas. He spent two days in the emergency room before dying of blunt force injury.
On March 24, Montgomery County District Court Judge Kristin Bays awarded his mother over $1.6 million, plus around $136,000 for pre-judgement interest and court costs.
Her attorneys alleged that her son’s death was preventable, and due to the driver’s carelessness, as well as the restaurant’s “failure to train and supervise its drivers.”
The lawsuit was filed in the 284th District Court in Montgomery County, Texas against Mingrun (doing business as Golden Chopsticks) —Case Number 20-02-02017.
