Melissa & Doug Fire Truck Toy Recalled for Choking Hazards
In September 2026, Target and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall for the Melissa & Doug® Lights & Sounds Fire Truck Activity Board due to choking and injury hazards for children.
The problem is that the toy’s plastic fire hose port can come loose and detach from the body of the truck. This creates a potential choking hazard for young children.
What Happened?
Melissa & Doug said it received 26 reports of the plastic port coming loose, including 1 report of a child who suffered a minor cut. No choking incidents were reported, but young children could choke on this small plastic part.
The recall covers about 84,000 toys that were sold exclusively at Target stores and online at Target.com nationwide. Parents are being urged to stop allowing their child to use the toy and contact Melissa & Doug to register online for a refund.
Which Products Are Affected?
The recall involves Melissa & Doug Lights & Sounds Fire Truck Activity Boards, which feature busy board activities that activate lights and sounds. It is made of red plastic, has 4 plastic black wheels, 1 white plastic ladder, a black plastic connector that looks like a fire hose.
The brand-name “Melissa & Doug” is embossed on the battery compartment box. This box also has two date wheels showing the dates of manufacturer by year and month. Affected units will have:
- One arrow pointing to the number 25 and the second arrow pointing to the number 4 or 5
- Or they will have one arrow pointing to the number 26 and the second arrow pointing to the number 3.
- Date codes OET 25100, OET 25150 or OET 26064 are printed on the product packaging
Where Was It Sold?
The toy was sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide and on Target.com from July 2025 through August 2026 for about $30. Melissa & Doug is offering a free replacement, a $30 refund by check, or a $40 store credit.
