UPDATE: Recall Expands for Matrix Treadmills

In January 2026, safety officials announced an expanded recall for 47,000 Matrix and Vision Treadmills due to a fire hazard. No injuries were reported, but there were 27 reports of overheating at the power cord-socket connection.

What is the Problem?

The problem is that “the power cord can become loose from the treadmill’s power socket, posing a fire hazard,” according to the Wisconsin-based manufacturer, Johnson Health Tech North America.

Where Were They Sold?

The recalled treadmills were sold from April 2012 through May 2025 at retailers such as JFW, G&G Fitness, Precision Fitness, Fitness Expo, Fitcorp USA, Better Body Fitness of Montana Inc, BGI Fitness, Treadmill Outlet, Colorado Home Fitnes, other stores and online.

What Happened?

The expanded recall was issued after a previous recall for Matrix T1 and T3 Series Commercial Treadmills, which were also recalled because the power cord can loosen from the treadmill’s power socket.

In the previous recall, the fix was a power cord bracket that required tools for installation. In the expanded recall, the fix is a power cord with an automatic locking-style plug that does not require any tools.

Previous Recalls for Matrix Treadmills for Fire Hazards

There have been two previous recalls for Matrix T1 and T3 Series Commercial Treadmills:

  • January 2022 Matrix Treadmill Recall —About 19,900 Matrix T1 and T3 Series Commercial Treadmills were recalled because the power cord can loosen from the power socket, which poses a fire hazard. There were 58 reports of the power cord and socket sparking, smoking, and/or melting, including 7 reports of fires, with 2 resulting in property damage. No injuries were reported.
  • April 2024 Matrix Treadmill Recall: About 10,250 Matrix T1 and T3 Series Commercial Treadmills were recalled because the power cord can loosen from the socket. According to the recall: “Matrix Fitness has received one report of a fire in a fitness facility since the last recall, in addition to the 58 reported in the January 2022 recall.”

How To Identify Recalled Treadmills

The recall involves Matrix Retail models T30, TF30, T50, TF50, and T75 treadmills, and Vision models T9800, TF20, T40, and T80 treadmills with certain serial numbers.

The name “Matrix” or “Vision” is printed on the treadmill and treadmill belt. The recalled treadmills were manufactured from June 2007 through January 2024 and do not come with a power cord bracket.
