In July 2026, Taylor Farms de Mexico recalled all iceberg lettuce it sourced from central Mexico. The company told the FDA the lettuce has the potential to be contaminated with Cyclospora.

• Marketside Shredded Lettuce, 8 oz and 16 oz

The recalled bags carry Best if Used By dates from July 18, 2026 through August 3, 2026. Check the brand and date printed on any bagged iceberg lettuce still in your refrigerator.

Were the Bags Sold at Texas Walmart Stores?

Yes. The FDA lists Texas among the states where recalled Marketside iceberg products were sold at select Walmart stores, along with Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Texas is also on the broader distribution list for the recalled iceberg products, which moved through 27 states between June 29 and July 16, 2026.

Has the Lettuce Actually Tested Positive?

No. According to the FDA:

 As of July 19, 2026, there are no confirmed positive sample results for product testing for Cyclospora.

The FDA has described the lettuce as having the potential to be contaminated and has not confirmed a positive Cyclospora test. Taylor Farms has framed the recall as a precautionary move made voluntarily while the investigation continues.

What Is Cyclospora, and Why Is It So Easy to Miss?

Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness spread by a microscopic parasite called Cyclospora cayetanensis. The CDC says symptoms usually appear about a week after a person swallows the parasite.

The illness slips past many doctors because routine stool tests do not screen for it, and it often will not clear on rest and fluids alone. Left untreated, symptoms can persist for several months or more.

Symptoms of cyclosporiasis may include:

• Watery diarrhea, the most common sign
• Loss of appetite and weight loss
• Cramping, bloating, and increased gas
• Nausea and lingering fatigue
• Vomiting, body aches, headache, or a low-grade fever in some people

How Many People Have Gotten Sick?

The recall from Taylor Farms is linked to a much larger and fast-growing outbreak. As of July 16, 2026, the FDA counted 1,644 people sickened in the related Taco Bell cluster, with 94 hospitalized and no deaths.

Nationally, CDC surveillance reported close to 7,000 cyclosporiasis cases across 34 states as of July 13, with at least 141 hospitalizations.

Official counts usually trail the real number, because many people never get tested and the CDC assumes about a 6-week reporting lag. How many of those illnesses trace to recalled retail bags of lettuce is still under investigation.
