November 11, 2020 — One of first volunteers to get Pfizer’s experimental coronavirus vaccine reported suffering a “severe hangover” after his first shot.
Glen Deshields, a 44 year-old volunteer from Austin, Texas, participated in a phase-3 clinical trial that was double-blinded, so he did not know if he received the coronavirus vaccine or a placebo.
Even so, he was confident he received the new vaccine because he later took an antibody test that was positive for COVID-19.
After his first injection, he said his symptoms were like a “severe hangover,” with a headache and arm pain for several days. The symptoms after his second injection were like a “mild hangover.”
Earlier this week, Pfizer and BioNTech reported that their coronavirus vaccine is 90% effective at preventing infections with the virus that causes COVID-19. The results were based on data from phase-3 trials involving more than 43,500 people in 6 countries.
