Little Giant Ladders Linked to 19 Injury Reports
In November 2026, safety officials and Little Giant Ladder Company announced a recall for about 3,662,000 Little Giant ladders with Rapid Locks. The recall involves 11 ladder models that were sold from December 2015 through October 2026.
According to the recall:
“The ladders can suddenly retract if the Rapid Locks are not fully engaged, posing a fall hazard to consumers.
What happened?
Little Giant reported 25 incidents of the ladders retracting unexpectedly. In addition, Little Giant said it received another 39 reports of Rapid Locks failing to work properly. There were also 19 reports of people who fell and suffered serious injuries when the ladder suddenly retracted.
Many of the injuries were very serious, according to the recall:
“Little Giant has received 25 reports of the ladders retracting, including 19 reports of injuries, consisting of three reports of head injuries such as traumatic brain injury, skull fracture, concussion, vision loss, hearing loss and cognitive impairment; and 16 reports of other injuries such as joint or bone fracture, lacerations and bruising.”
What Happens When a Rapid Lock Is Not Fully Engaged?
All of the recalled ladders have a Rapid Lock on each leg (black or orange) that is supposed to engage a rung on the ladder, which allows users to quickly adjust the height of the ladder. Users must turn the lock 90 degrees until the locking pin is fully engaged in the hole.
If the pin stops short of that position, it is not locked, and the ladder can unexpectedly retract when a person climbs the ladder. This poses a fall hazard and a risk of serious injuries. No deaths were reported, but a fall from height can be life-threatening.
Which Little Giant Ladders Are Affected?
The recall covers 11 models of Little Giant ladders with adjustable Rapid Locks:
- Adjustable Fortress 2.0
- Conquest 2.0
- Dark Horse 2.0
- Epic
- King Kombo XT
- Leveler
- MegaLite
- MegaLite+
- Multi
- Quantum
- Vector
You can look for the “Little Giant” brand and the model name on the side of the ladder. The recall does NOT include ladders with an orange rectangular “QC” sticker on the rail above one of the Rapid Locks.
The full list of recalled ladders and part numbers can be found on Little Giant’s Rapid Lock recall website.
Where Were They Sold?
The ladders were sold at Lowe’s, Costco, other stores nationwide, Lowes.com, Amazon.com, Costco.com, LittleGiantLadders.com and other websites for about $100 to $1,000 between December 2015 and September 2026.
If you own one of these ladders, stop using it until you read the recall information and contact Little Giant for a repair kit. Little Giant can be contacted at 866-201-9069 from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mountain Time, which is 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in most of Texas, Monday through Friday.
Can I Get a Refund?
Maybe. If the lock does not work properly after lubrication, you can have Little Giant evaluate it. If the lock still does not function properly, Little Ginat will offer a replacement ladder of the same or equivalent model, or a refund ranging from a depreciated value determined by date of purchase up to full purchase price for ladders purchased within the past 12 months.
Previous Little Giant Ladder Recalls
Little Giant ladders were previously recalled in March 2017. The recall involved about 37,000 Velocity, LT and Liberty multi-purpose ladders with locking pins and rung fasteners that could fail, which poses a fall hazard. No injuries were reported at the time.
