In September 2023, Lectric eBikes issued a recall for about 45,000 electric bicycles (e-bikes) because the brakes can fail and cause a rider to crash, which poses a risk of severe injuries or death.

Lectric eBikes said it received 4 reports of riders who experienced a sudden loss of braking power. Two people crashed and suffered injuries when their brakes failed. The injuries included a broken bone, cuts, and scrapes.
Why Do The Brakes Fail?
Lectric warned about a risk of brake failure due to a problem with the mechanical disc brake calipers, which are located on the front and rear of the e-bike. These calipers can suddenly fail and cause a loss of braking power.

Lectric has recalled the following e-bike models to repair the mechanical disc brake calipers:
- XP 3.0 Black
- XP 3.0 Long- Range Black
- XP Step-Thru 3.0 Black
- XP Step-Thru 3.0 White
- XP Step-Thru 3.0 Long Range
- XP Step-Thru 3.0 Long Range White
They were sold from November 2022 through May 2023 for $1,000 to $1,200 at bike stores ando nline at lectricebikes.com.
