Kazano is a diabetes drug that could increase the risk of pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, rhabdomyolysis, and other severe side effects.

FDA Evaluating Rhabdomyolysis Risk
The FDA is evaluating a potential signals of a serious risk and new safety information linking DPP4 diabetes drugs and rhabdomyolysis. This potentially life-threatening kidney side effect was identified by the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) between April and June 2017.
Kazano and Pancreatic Cancer
Kazano contains alogliptin, a medication in a new class of diabetes drugs called “incretin mimetics.” Because these medications rely so heavily on the pancreas to work, many experts are concerned about the risk of pancreatic side effects.
The first evidence linking incretin mimetics with pancreatic cancer was published in Gastroenterology in 2010. In March 2013, the FDA issued a Safety Communication after a study published in Diabetes found pre-cancerous growths (pancreatic duct metaplasia) in patients who used incretin mimetics.
The FDA has also issued warnings about severe inflammation in the pancreas, which can lead to hemorrhagic and necrotizing pancreatitis. Over time, chronic pancreatitis significantly increases a patient’s risk of pancreatic cancer.
Kazano Lawsuits Consolidated in MDL
Hundreds of lawsuits have been filed by people who took diabetes drugs in the incretin mimetic class. As of January 2016, over 750 lawsuits were consolidated in federal court in California in Multi-District Litigation (MDL No. 2452).
Consolidating individual lawsuits into a MDL or “mass-tort” has many of the advantages of a class action, such as improving efficiency and eliminating the risk of conflicting rulings. However, unlike a class action, each case remains independent and can have its own outcome.
What is the problem?
The Clark Firm, LLP is nationally recognized as a class action law firm in Texas. However, we are not filing a Kazano class action at this time. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits on behalf of people who were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
About Class Actions
The advantage of a class action is that it is an efficient way to resolve a lot of lawsuits involving similar legal claims all at once. Everyone is represented by one plaintiff and the outcome depends on that person’s case. If compensation is awarded, everyone shares equally.
Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action
Class actions are efficient, but they are not designed to maximize compensation for individuals with the most severe injuries. They may also have to accept a “low-ball” settlement or attorneys’ fees that leave little remaining for everyone who joins the class action.
Instead of a class action, our attorneys file individual lawsuits. We focus our efforts on helping people who were severely injured by dangerous medications file lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies. If you decide to join this litigation, you could receive compensation for your pain and suffering, medical expenses, and more.
