Joy Furniture Recalls Talan and Royce Power Reclining Sets
In May 2026, Joy Furniture recalled about 10,400 Talan and Royce power reclining living room furniture sets nationally due to a fire hazard.
According to the CPSC, the power switch on the sofa, loveseat, or recliner can malfunction and overheat, posing a risk of serious injury from a fire hazard. No injuries were reported when the recall was announced.
What Is the Fire Danger?
The recall involves furniture sets that have powered recliners features. These features with a power headrest and lumbar, pillowed arms, ultra-padded seating, and USB and wireless charging. The defective component is the power recliner switch, which has been linked to reports of overheating.
An overheating power switch on padded furniture can lead to:
- Burn injuries
- Smoke inhalation
- Property damage
- Fires in a residence or office
Which Products Are Affected?
The recall covers the following Talan (medium-gray) and Royce (brown) powered furniture, including the following model numbers:
- Talan Power Sofa — model JF1126-4PHL
- Talan Power Loveseat — model JF1126-5PHL
- Talan Power Recliner — model JF1126-9PHL
- Royce Power Sofa — model JF1155-4PHL
- Royce Power Loveseat — model JF1155-5PHL
- Royce Power Recliner — model JF1155-9PHL
Where Were They Sold?
The furniture was sold at Raymour & Flanigan Furniture stores in Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts.
The Talan set sold from January 2024 through March 2026 for between $1,000 and $2,200, and the Royce set sold from May 2025 until the middle of May 2026 for between $800 and $1,800.
Safety officials are warning consumers to stop using the power recliner switch and unplug the power cord immediately, then participate in the recall. More information is available on the official CPSC recall page or by calling Joy Furniture at 888-297-7570.
How Many People Were Affected?
Joy Furniture reported 41 incidents nationally involving the power switch, including smoking, burning, and an electrical odor smell. Two incidents resulted in fire, and no injuries have been reported.
Although these sets were sold at Raymour & Flanigan stores in the Northeast, similar power reclining furniture is sold across Texas, and an overheating fire risk can have devastating consequences. If you believe a power recliner harmed you or a member of your family, our lawyers may be able to help.
Previous Recalls of Power Reclining Furniture for Fire
This is not the first time a recall has been issued for power-reclining furniture due to a fire hazard. In June 2023, Ashley Furniture recalled about 263,000 Party Time power loveseats, sofas, and recliners because the cup-holders with LED lighting could overheat and catch fire.
At the time of that recall, the company said it was aware of 6 reports of the LED cup-holder overheating, resulting in fires and smoke damage. The pattern of power reclining furniture overheating shows why an overheating switch or electrical component in upholstered furniture is so dangerous.
