Jeep Recalls Grand Cherokee SRT & Trackhawk

November 18, 2018 — Chrysler (FCA) recalled approximately 4,822 of the model-year 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Street and Racing Technology (SRT) and Trackhawk vehicles.

Unintended Acceleration Hazard

The driver’s floor mat may not have enough clearance between the mat and the accelerator pedal, which could prevent the pedal from returning to the idle position. If the floor mat prevents the accelerator pedal from returning to idle, there would be an increased risk of unintended acceleration or a car accident.

What is the Problem?

A driver floor mat without enough clearance to the accelerator pedal may prevent the accelerator pedal from returning to an idle state when the driver removes pressure on the pedal, causing more engine power to be requested than intended.

Avoiding Unintended Acceleration in an Emergency

Unintended acceleration may be stopped with the brake-throttle override function. If the accelerator pedal is held in a fixed position for a certain amount of time, and then the brakes are applied, the engine will disregard the continued accelerator pedal request and the engine will return to idle, despite the position of the accelerator pedal.
