HydroTech Garden Hoses Recalled After 29 People Injured
In July 2025, the Ohio-based manufacturer Winston Products announced a voluntary recall for about 3.6 million expandable “burst-proof” garden hoses that can burst and cause serious injuries, including impact injuries and/or hearing loss.
What Happened?
The recalled HydroTech Expandable Garden Hoses were advertised as “burst-proof,” but the manufacturer received at least 222 reports of the hoses bursting. There were also dozens of injuries reported, including impact injuries and “temporarily impaired hearing.”
How Many People Were Injured?
Winston Products said 29 people were injured by a HydroTech Expandable Garden Hose that burst, including “one bone bruise, two sprains and five reports of temporarily impaired hearing from the sound of the hose bursting,” according to the recall.
The injuries linked to HydroTech Garden Hoses include (but are not limited to):
- Impact injuries (being hit by the hose)
- Temporary hearing loss
- Bone bruise
- Sprains
- Temporary hearing loss
Where Were They Sold?
The recalled garden hoses were sold nationwide at Ace Hardware, Amazon, Do It Best, Home Depot, Target, Walmart and other stores nationwide and online from January 2021 through April 2025 .
These hoses were sold in lengths of 25, 50, 60, 75, 100 and 200 feet long. Customers can also look for the Date Code markings located on the end of the hose hat attaches to the spigot.
The recall only involves hoses with certain codes. Hoses with no markings or a marking ending in -211, -212, -213, -214, -221, -222, -223, -224, -231, -232, -233, -234, -241, -242 or -243 are included in this recall.
