The seasonal flu vaccine, H1N1 (Swine Flu), meningitis, and other vaccines have been linked to rare but severe cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a type of nerve damage that can cause chronic muscle weakness, paralysis, and even death.

Vaccines and Guillain-Barré Syndrome
Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is an autoimmune disorder that occurs when the body attacks myelin, which is the protective sheath around nerve cells.
GBS causes progressive nerve damage that typically begins as a “tingling” sensation in the fingers and toes. It typically worsens progressively over the next few weeks. In the most severe cases, it can cause paralysis and even death.
No one knows why, but vaccines sometimes trigger GBS. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), hundreds of cases have been associated with the following vaccines:
Long-Term Disability
Most people survive Guillain-Barré Syndrome, but the condition can cause permanent disability. About one-third of patients still have symptoms three years after their diagnosis. The most common symptom is muscle weakness.
What is the problem?
Guillain-Barré Syndrome is rare. For every 1 million people who get vaccinated, only 1 or 2 are diagnosed with GBS, according to the CDC. Even so, this means hundreds of people could be eligible for compensation every year.
About Class Actions
The Clark Firm, LLP is nationally recognized as a class action law firm in Texas. However, our lawyers are not filing a class action lawsuit for victims of vaccine side effects. Instead, we are helping people who were diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome file individual claims with a federal compensation program.
Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action
Instead of a class action, claims are filed through the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP). There are strict deadlines for filing a claim, which is why you should contact an attorney as soon as possible.
What is the VICP?
The VICP is a federal program designed to help victims of vaccine side effects and encourage drug-makers to make new vaccines without fear of being sued.
Lawmakers recognized that vaccines would inevitably cause severe side effects, so they imposed a $0.75 excise tax to fund a compensation program for those victims. Since 1989, thousands of people have received a total of nearly $3 billion.
Decision Process
Once you file a claim, it will be reviewed by a doctor to check that it meets medical criteria. Then, it goes to a “special master” who decides whether to award compensation. Every claim is eligible for up to $250,000 in compensation, plus reimbursement for attorneys’ fees. If your claim is denied, you can appeal to a judge in a higher court.
