CPSC Safety Warning for Gourmia Pressure Cookers

On February 24, 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued an safety warning for owners of about 43,500 Gourmia® 6-Quart Digital Pressure Cooker (Model GPC625).

The CPSC urged people to stop using the pressure cooker and dispose of it immediately due to the risk of severe burn injuries.

What is the Problem?

Safety officials warned that the lid can open while the pressure cooker is still under pressure. This may result in scalding-hot food and liquid exploding or violently spewing out of the pot and landing on people nearby, which could cause severe 2nd- and 3rd-degree burn injuries.

How Many People Were Burned?

The CPSC said it had 5 reports of incidents in which the lid opened while the pressure cooker was pressurized, which ejected the scalding-hot contents. Four incidents resulted in serious 2nd-degree burn injuries. At least 2 lawsuits have already been filed by victims.

What Are The Defects?

The warning includes specific problems with the affected Gourmia Pressure Cookers, including:

  • Hidden float valve: The float valve is hard to see because it is located inside the handle. Consumers may try to open the lid when the unit is pressurized because they can’t see the float valve, and reasonably believe the cooker is safe to open when it is still fully pressurized.
  • Incorrect volume markings: The inner pot has inaccurate measurement markings. This can cause consumers to overfill the pot and hot food and liquids to be ejected when the pressure cooker is vented using the quick release method or opened while its contents are pressurized.
  • Lid opens under pressure: The lid can open while the pressure cooker is still pressurized. This may result in a sudden release of steam and pressure, which ejects the scalding-hot food, liquid, and steam.

Can I Get a Replacement or Refund?

No. In a unique circumstance, Best Buy and the company that imported these pressure cookers have both refused to agree to an acceptable recall, according to the CPSC. That means consumers are not eligible for a refund, replacement, or other remedy.

What Pressure Cookers Are Affected by the Problem?

The problem affects about 43,500 pressure cookers that were sold primarily at Best Buy between 2017 and 2020 for between $50 and $80. These pressure cookers can be identified by:
