Why Did Target Recall the Gigglescape Popping Toy?

On July 2, 2026, Target announced a recall of about 49,000 Gigglescape Under the Sea Popping Toys. The toy has a clear dome sitting on a blue whale-shaped base, with colored balls that jump when a child presses the plunger on top.

The problem is that the plastic dome can potentially detach from the base. When it separates from the base, the small plastic balls are no longer contained inside the toy, and a young child could potentially choke on the balls.

Which Toys Are Included in the Recall?

The recall involves toys with the following information:

  • Gigglescape™ Under the Sea Popping Toy — blue whale-shaped base with clear dome and colored balls
  • Gigglescape brand shown on the front of the box and on the underside of the base
  • Made in China and imported by Target of Minneapolis, Minnesota
  • CPSC recall number 26-598

Where Were They Sold in Texas?

These recalled popping toys were sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide from August 2025 through January 2026 for about $10, including Target locations throughout Texas. Many were likely purchased as holiday gifts during that window.

Target says owners should stop using the toy right away and bring it to any Target store for a full refund, or call 800-591-3869 for a prepaid return label. Updates are posted on the official CPSC recall page and Target’s help site.

How Many Children Were Affected?

Nationally, Target sad it has received 9 reports of the dome detaching from the base. One of those reports involved a child who began to choke.

Official counts typically under-represent the actual number of incidents, since parents who clear a child’s airway in time rarely file a report. If your child choked on or swallowed a ball from this toy, our lawyers may be able to help.

Legal Help for Injured Children in Texas
