Salmonella Food Poisoning

Eating products that are contaminated with Salmonella can lead to severe infections — especially in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. Healthy adults who are infected with Salmonella typically experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

The FDA has also warned about life-threatening complications:

“In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditic and arthritis.”

What is Being Done?

Contamination with Salmonella was discovered by the FDA in a sample of raw material that was received by Frontier Co-Op from a supplier. Frontier has responded by taking more precautions with products in the supply chain, including additional product testing “beyond FDA guidelines,” to reduce the risk of this happening again.
