Galanz Refrigerators Linked to a Deadly Fire Recall
In July 2026, the CPSC and Galanz Americas recalled roughly 121,680 Retro Refrigerators after 34 reports of fires. Tragically, one of those fires was linked to a death, according to a local fire department.
Where Were These Refrigerators Sold?
The refrigerators were manufactured by Zhongshan Galanz in China and imported by Home Depot and Galanz Americas. They were sold nationwide, including in Texas, for between $330 and $520.
What Is the Fire Danger?
The CPSC says the refrigerators’ internal electrical components can short circuit and ignite. The danger comes from ordinary use, not misuse, since the unit only has to be plugged in and running as intended.
A refrigerator fire can spread through a kitchen quickly, including while a family is asleep or away from home, which is why Galanz and the CPSC are urging owners to act immediately.
Which Refrigerators Are Affected?
- Model numbers BCD-215V-62H, GLR76TRDER, GLR76TBKER, GLR76TBEER and GLR76TWEER
- Date codes between December 2018 and December 2020, printed in YYYYMM format on the back label
- Colors: black, blue, red and white
- 7.6 cu. ft. capacity retro-style units with a separate top freezer door
Where Were They Sold?
The refrigerators were sold at Home Depot stores nationwide, including Texas locations and online at Amazon.com, from January 2019 through September 2022.
If you still have one of these refrigerators, unplug it immediately and contact Galanz for a free in-home repair. The CPSC recall notice has the full model and date code details.
How Many People in Texas Were Affected?
The CPSC has not published a state-by-state breakdown of incidents, so we do not know how many of the 34 fires happened in Texas. However, with Home Depot and Amazon selling these refrigerators nationwide for more than three years, some of these units may be in Texas homes.
If a Galanz refrigerator started a fire in your home, our lawyers may be able to help, whether or not your incident was reported to the CPSC.
Legal Help for Fire Victims in Texas
A fire that starts inside a refrigerator can destroy far more than the appliance itself. The hazards include smoke damage, severe burn injuries, and death, which has been confirmed in at least one case.
Texans who were injured, displaced, or lost a family member because of this fire hazard may be entitled to compensation. A Texas product liability lawyer can help you understand your legal options.
