As of October 3, 2019, Ethicon reported 1 death and 7 serious injuries were linked to the recalled staplers. The potential risks to patients include prolonged surgery, postoperative connection (anastomotic) leak, hemorrhage, hemorrhagic shock, additional surgical intervention, and death.
