Electra E-Bikes Recalled for Crash Hazard
On February 20, 2025, hundreds of Electra e-bikes were recalled after a person was seriously injured in a crash when the rear fender loosened and hit the rear wheel, causing the wheel to stop suddenly.
What Happened?
There were 2 reports of the rear fender making contact with the rear wheel. One person suffered serious injuries including a fractured shinbone, meniscus tear, and scrapes, according to the recall.
What Electra E-Bikes Were Recalled?
Electra recalled about 927 e-bikes, including the following models:
- Electra Navigator Go! E-Bikes: Model years 2021 and 2022, sold in Matte Nautilus Blue with map/ocean graphics
- Electra Ace of Spades Go! E-Bikes: Model years 2018, 2021 and 2022, sold in Matte Black with a gold spade
Why Were These Electra E-Bikes Recalled?
These e-bikes were recalled because the rear fender can loosen and hit the rear wheel, which can cause a rider to lose control or crash. This safety hazard poses a risk of injuries in an e-bike accident.
According to the Electra E-Bike Safety Recall provided by Trek:
“Certain bolts attaching the rear fender to the bike do not contain threadlocker, and can loosen during shipping or while riding. If the bolts loosen and fall out, the fender can rotate under the rear wheel, and you could lose control of the bicycle and fall.”
What Are Electra E-Bikes?
Electra is an electric bike (or “e-bike”) company based in California that is owned by Trek Bicycle Corporation. Many e-bikes are designed to look like classic bicycles, but with a fully-integrated rechargeable battery to give riders extra speed and power to travel longer distances.
What Should I Do?
If you own a recalled e-bicycle, do not ride it. You should contact your local Trek or Electra retailer to schedule a service appointment. Trek will provide rear fender replacement bolts with threadlocker, for free.
“In addition, when you bring in your bicycle for inspection, Trek will give you a US$10 in-store credit that can be used toward any Electra, Trek, or Bontrager merchandise. The credit is good through December 31, 2025 and has no cash value.”
