What is the Problem?
Dupixent (dupilumab) is an injection medication that is prescribed to treat chronic inflammatory conditions like eczema, asthma, and more.
Unfortunately, recent studies have linked Dupixent to an increased risk of Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma (CTCL), which is a rare type of non-Hodgkin skin cancer. The symptoms of CTCL may include:
- Widespread itchy, scaly rash
- Discolored patches of skin
- Scaly patches on skin, raised skin that may be itchy
- Thickened skin on feet or hands
- And more
Study Links Dupixent and 4X Higher Risk of CTCL
The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology discovered that people who used Dupixent had a 4-fold higher rate of Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma (CTCL) compared to non-users.
Study Finds Dozens of Dupixent CTCL Cases With Rapid Progression
Other studies have associated Dupixent with even higher rates of CTCL, including many cases with rapid progression to severe disease.
For example, one study by Dr. Jenna Mandel documented 39 cases of CTCL in patients who were using Dupixent:
“To date, there have been a total of 39 documented CTCL cases following dupilumab use for treatment of AD worldwide, many of which progressed rapidly to advanced-stage disease.”
FDA Evaluating Dupixent T-Cell Lymphoma Risk
The label on Dupixent does not yet include warnings about the potential risk of Cutaneous T-cell Lymphoma (CTCL).
The FDA said it was “evaluating the need for regulatory action” regarding the risk of Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma from Dupixent (dupilumab) injections, according to an update October – December 2024: Potential Signals of Serious Risks/New Safety Information Identified by the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS).
Can I Join a Class Action Lawsuit?
Dupixent lawsuits are still under investigation, and the litigation is in the preliminary stages, so there are currently no class action lawsuits or Multi-District Litigation (MDL) proceedings in the U.S.
Instead, lawyers are investigating individual lawsuits for people who are seeking personal injury claims. These lawsuits generally accuse pharmaceutical companies of failing to warn patients about CTCL.
Lawsuits for Medical Monitoring
In the future, it is possible that lawsuits may also seek other benefits for people on Dupixent, such as medical monitoring. This is because patients who use Dupixent might need to have routine check-ups, biopsies, or other types of medical tests to check them for CTCL.
What This Means For You
If you or a loved one used Dupixent and were diagnosed with Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma (CTCL) or related type of lymphoma / skin cancer, you may be able to seek compensation through a lawsuit.
How Can a Lawsuit Help?
Dupixent patients who are interested in filing a lawsuit should contact a healthcare provider for evaluation of CTCL. This is a rare type of cancer, and many patients go undiagnosed for years (or decades) because the symptoms are so similar to skin conditions like eczema.
What Evidence Will I Need?
Your doctor can help you collect medical records that you will need as evidence. Lawyers will need to know when you were first prescribed Dupixent, how long you used Dupixent, when you were diagnosed with CTCL, and any treatments you have had (and may need later).
How Long Do I Have To File a Lawsuit?
It is also important to talk to a lawyer immediately, because every state has a deadline to file a lawsuit. This is called the “statute of limitations,” and the time-limit varies by state. It is generally 2-4 years, but sometimes the deadline can be extended, depending on when your medication was linked to a serious side effect.
