Gree Dehumidifiers Recalled Due to Fire Hazard

Gree Electric Appliances of China re-announced a recall for 2.5 million dehumidifiers that could catch on fire. The recalled dehumidifiers were linked to at least 450 fires and $19 million in property damage. The problem is they can overheat, smoke, melt, and catch on fire, posing a burn injury hazard to consumers.

In March 2016, Gree agreed to pay $15 million for failing to report dehumidifier fires. Incidents began in July 2012 and Gree made design changes to fix the problem, but did tell the U.S. government or issue a recall until the following year.

Gree initiated the recall in September 2013, updated it in October 2013, and expanded it to include GE dehumidifiers in January 2014. The recall includes dehumidifiers sold under the following brand-names:

  • Danby
  • De’Longhi
  • Fedders
  • Fellini
  • Frigidaire
  • GE
  • Gree
  • Kenmore
  • Norpole
  • Premiere
  • Seabreeze
  • SoleusAir
  • SuperClima

Sears Recalls Kenmore Dehumidifiers

Sears recalled nearly 800,000 Kenmore dehumidifiers in August 2012 because they could catch on fire. The recalled dehumidifiers were linked to 107 incidents, over $7 million in property damage, and 3 smoke-inhalation injuries.

What is the problem?

The Clark Firm, LLP is nationally recognized as a class action law firm in Texas, but our lawyers are not filing a class action lawsuit for dehumidifier recalls. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits for people who were seriously injured or had property damage from fires.

About Class Actions

Class action lawsuits are useful when a lot of people have the same legal claim — seeking refunds for a defective dehumidifier that was recalled, for example. If compensation is awarded, everyone who joins the class action shares the payout equally.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

Class actions have disadvantages for people who have more serious legal claims than the average person who just wants a refund. Another problem is that class action lawyers sometimes accept a “low-ball” settlement and charge massive fees, which reduces the payout. Instead of a class action, our lawyers are filing individual lawsuits. There is no excuse for selling a dehumidifier that can burn your house down. We specialize in helping victims of defective products seek compensation for their injury, medical expenses, financial losses, and more.
