Crux Pressure Cooker Lawsuit Filed for Burn Injuries

In December 2025, a man from Missouri filed a pressure cooker lawsuit against Sensio Inc. and Crux Kitchen LLC. His lawsuit accused the companies of putting profits ahead of safety by selling pressure cookers with defective safety features that may fail to lock the lid.

What Happened?

The lawsuit was filed by James H., a resident of Columbia, Missouri, who was burned on December 1, 2020, while using a Crux 8-Quart 10-In-1 Programmable Multi Cooker (Model No. M-80830BG).

Nearly 3 years after he was injured, this same model of Crux pressure cooker was recalled because the “lid can unlock and be removed during use, causing the hot contents to unexpectedly splash out.”

The lawsuit explains that he was using the pressure cooker at his home when the lid opened while the product was under pressure, causing the scalding-hot food and liquid to explode out of the pot.

He suffered severe burns to his face, torso, and arms, which caused him to suffer extreme pain, permanent scarring, and disfigurement.

What Does His Lawsuit Claim?

He alleges that the defendants knew (or should have known) that the pressure cooker was defective, but failed to take appropriate action to protect consumers. Specifically, he claims that the lid is capable of detaching while the unit is pressurized, which poses a burn hazard.

The lawsuit was filed against Sensio Inc. (doing business as “Made By Gather”), Crux Kitchen LLC, and 8479950 Canada Inc. These companies are accused of acting with “reckless disregard for the safety of consumers” and failing to warn consumers about the risk.

His lawsuit was filed on December 1, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri (Northern Division) — Case Number 2:25-cv-04271-WJE.

What is the Crux Pressure Cooker?

The Crux® 8-Qt. 10-in-1 Programmable Multi-Cooker is a kitchen appliance that is designed to work as a pressure cooker, slow cooker, steamer, rice cooker, and other functions. They were sold at Macy’s, other retailers and websites until a major recall in August 2023.

Crux Pressure Cooker Recall

On August 10, 2023, Sensio announced a major recall for about 860,000 pressure cookers because the lid can unlock and be removed during use, which may result in scalding-hot food, liquid, and steam exploding out.

The pressure cookers were linked to dozens of burn injuries, according to the recall:

“Sensio has received 63 reports of incidents, including 61 burn injuries, some of which involved second and third degree burns to the face, torso, arms, and hands.”

The recall includes electric pressure cookers, stovetop pressure cookers, and multi-cookers in various sizes that were sold under brand-names like Crux®, Bella®, Bella Pro Series®, and Cooks®.

Where Were They Sold?

The recalled pressure cookers were sold from September 2015 through September 2020 at stores like JCPenney, Kohl’s, Lowe’s, Macy’s, Target, and online at Amazon.com and other websites.

What Should I Do?

Sensio has created a website where consumers can check to see if their pressure cooker is subject to this recall. You will need to look on the bottom of the unit for the BRAND name and ITEM # / MODEL #.

For example, the recalled Crux® 8-Qt. Electric Pressure Cooker had Item No. 14721.

If your pressure cooker is affected by the recall, you can also register for a refund of $43 for electric units and $9 for stovetop units. The recall website is: https://recall.sensiobrands.com/.
