Coconut Salmonella Outbreak

The bacteria strain has been identified a Salmonella Typhimurium. It has been discovered in two raw coconut products that were both recalled in March 2018:

Go Smile! Coconut Recalled for Salmonella

On March 16, 2018, International Harvest Inc. recalled bags of Organic Go Smile! Raw Coconut and bulk packages of Go Smiles Dried Coconut Raw.

Testing by the FDA found Salmonella in samples of both products.

The products were sold in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, California, Colorado, Oklahoma, Georgia, Vermont, Illinois, Florida, Maine, Washington, New Hampshire, and Utah.

Organic Go Smile! Dried Coconut Raw was sold online and in grocery stores in a 9-oz plastic bag 9-ounce bags with sell-by dates from January 1, 2018 through March 1, 2019.

The bulk Go Smiles Dried Coconut Raw was sold in a 25-pound case labeled with batch/lot numbers OCSM-0010, OCSM-0011, and OCSM-0014.

Natural Grocers — Organic Coconut Recall

On March 19, 2018, Natural Grocers and Vitamin Cottage Natural Food Markets, Inc., of Lakewood, Colorado, recalled packages of Natural Grocers® 10-ounce Coconut Smiles Organic Raw Coconut due to Salmonella contamination. Six illnesses have been linked to this product.

The products were labeled with barcode 8034810 and packed-on numbers lower than 18-075. The recalled Natural Grocers Coconut Smiles Organic were sold in 10-ounce clear plastic bags.

The product was sold at “Natural Grocers” grocery stores in Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
