Children’s HearMuffs Recalled for Ear Injury Risk
In September 2022, the Texas-based companies Hearing Lab Technologies LLC / Lucid Audio announced a voluntary recall for around 31,150 Children’s HearMuffs due to a risk of serious ear injuries to children.
What is the Problem?
Children’s HearMuffs were recalled because the two original AAA batteries that came with the ear muffs can rupture and cause serious burns, hearing damage, projectile injuries, and other ear injuries.
Was Anyone Injured?
No injuries were reported, but there were 19 reports of batteries rupturing when the recall was announced on September 8, 2022, by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
What HearMuffs Were Recalled?
Lucid Audio / Hearing Lab Technologies recalled four models of Children’s HearMuffs. The model can be found on the packaging:

- LA-infant-ASM-WH
- LA-infant-ASM-WHPlus
- LA-kids-AM-WH
What Are HearMuffs?
Children’s HearMuffs are designed to provide hearing protection for babies and young children. They are advertised to “preserve little ears” and “muffle the noise” from concerts, traffic, and more.
Children’s HearMuffs were sold in multiple colors. They have a multi-mode power button to switch from Off, Active or Soothe Mode. The name “HearMuff “is printed in blue lettering on the recalled ear muffs.
Where Were They Sold?
Children’s HearMuffs were sold nationwide at Sam’s Club, Kroger, other stores and online from January 2018 through December 2021 for between $30 and $40.
