CPSC Warns Consumers About CCCEI Power Strips for Fire Hazard

In March 2026, the CPSC issued a public safety warning urging consumers to stop using CCCEI Power Strips immediately. The warning covers all CCCEI strips sold with 6ft, 10ft, and 15ft power cords. They were sold on Amazon from April 2024 through January 2026 for between $25 and $30, through the Amazon storefront of Middle Way Electronics.

Can I Get a Refund?

No. The CPSC could not issue a formal recall because Middle Way Electronics refused to cooperate. No replacement, refund, or exchange program exists. Consumers who own these strips are on their own to dispose of them safely.

What is the Problem?

CCCEI power strips were manufactured without supplementary overcurrent protection. This feature is standard in safe power strips and functions like a circuit breaker. Overcurrent protection is supposed to cut power when the strip is drawing more load than it can safely handle. Without it, an overloaded strip can overheat and start a fire with no warning.

According to the warning:

“The power strips do not contain supplementary overcurrent protection which creates a risk of fire if the power strips are overloaded. The resulting fire can cause serious injury or death from smoke inhalation and burns.”

Many people use power strips to plug in high-draw devices at home, in the garage, in shops, or on job sites. Space heaters, air compressors, power tools, and kitchen appliances are common culprits. A strip without overcurrent protection connected to any of these devices is a serious fire hazard.

How Many People Were Injured?

The CPSC has not published a specific injury count, but the decision to issue a direct public warning (which bypasses the standard recall process entirely) is a sign that this is a serious and immediate risk. Fires caused by defective power strips can result in:

  • Burn injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening
  • Smoke inhalation injuries
  • Significant property damage or total home loss
  • Death in severe fire events

Which Power Strips Are Affected?

You can identify the power strips in the safety warning with the following information:

  • Brand: CCCEI
  • Sold by: Middle Way Electronics on Amazon.com
  • Sale dates: April 2024 through January 2026
  • Price: $25 to $30
  • Cord lengths: 6ft, 10ft, or 15ft
  • Appearance: Black metal enclosure, six black plastic outlets, individual on/off switch per outlet
  • Manufactured in: China
  • CPSC Warning Number: 26-313

Texans use power strips in a wide variety of settings. Examples include homes across Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin, in ranch workshops along farm-to-market roads, in oilfield trailers on the Permian Basin, and in small businesses throughout the state.

A defective power strip in any of those settings can cause a fire that destroys property, causes serious burn injures, or kills innnocent people nearby.

When a manufacturer sells a product that lacks a basic required safety feature, and a retailer refuses to cooperate with authorities to get it off the market, injured consumers can pursue legal action. The Clark Firm, LLP has experience holding defective product manufacturers and retailers accountable, and is currently investigating cases for Texans harmed by these strips.

How Do These Fires Start?

A power strip without overcurrent protection has no automatic shutoff when it is overloaded. Heat builds in the wiring until something ignites — whether that is the plastic housing of the strip itself, a nearby rug, wood flooring, or furniture.

In a home or workspace, a fire can spread quickly before a smoke detector triggers or before anyone can respond. The hazard is especially dangerous overnight, when a strip may be powering charging devices for hours with no one awake to notice a problem.
