1st Carrot E. Coli Lawsuit Filed Against Grimmway Farms

The first lawsuit against Grimmway Farms was filed by a woman who was hospitalized with E. coli O121 after eating Bunny Luv Organic Carrots.

The lawsuit was filed by Melinda P., a mother of three from Savannah, Georgia, who bought Bunny Luv Fresh Organic Carrots at her local Sam’s Club grocery store on September 30, 2024.

She said it was fortunate that she was the only person in her family who ate the carrots, because soon afterward, she fell extremely ill.

She developed bloody diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and painful abdominal cramps. These symptoms persisted for 2 weeks, until her stomach pain was so severe that it felt like “somebody getting stabbed in the stomach repeatedly and not stopping,” according to her lawsuit.

She went to the hospital on October 21, 2024, where she remained hospitalized for 3 days. She said she still owes $20,000 in medical bills, and her lawsuit is seeking compensation for her expenses.

After she tested positive for Shiga-toxin producing E. coli (STEC), health officials contacted her and confirmed that she got sick after eating carrots that were produced by Grimmway Farms.

Her lawsuit was filed in Kern County, California, where Grimmway Farms is based. She accuses the company of failing to ensure the safety of their carrots, and failing to warn consumers of the risk.
