Overview

Bydureon is an extended-release diabetes drug made by AstraZeneca. Unfortunately, the main ingredient, exenatide, has been linked to dozens of cases of pancreatitis, including hemorrhagic and necrotizing pancreatitis.

FDA Investigates Pancreatic Cancer Risk

The FDA is also investigating a possible risk of pancreatic cancer. The agency became concerned after researchers found evidence of pre-cancerous cellular growths and unusual cell proliferation. After reviewing the evidence, the FDA did not decide to strengthen warnings labels on Bydureon.

Bydureon and Pancreatic Cancer

Bydureon belongs to a class of drugs called incretin mimetics, which help lower blood-sugar levels by stimulating the pancreas to make more insulin. Many exerts are concerned that this could lead to inflammation in the pancreas (pancreatitis), which is a risk-factor for pancreatic cancer.

Pancreatic Cancer Lawsuits

Hundreds of lawsuits have been filed against drug-makers by people who were diagnosed with pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer after taking a drug in the incretin mimetic class, including Byetta and Bydureon.

The lawsuits are currently centralized in one federal court in California. In August 2014, AstraZeneca reported settlement agreements in 84 lawsuits. However, they did not not disclose terms of the agreements or the injuries involved.

What is the problem?

The Clark Firm, LLP is nationally recognized as a class action law firm. However, at this time we are not filing a Bydureon class action in Texas. Instead, we are pursuing individual lawsuits against AstraZeneca involving people who were injured by pancreatic cancer.

About Class Actions

Class actions are an efficient and popular way to resolve a lot of legal claims at the same time. Lawyers choose a “class representative” and use that person’s case to argue for compensation on behalf of everyone in the lawsuit. Any payout is divided among everyone who joins the class action.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

For people who were severely injured by unsafe medications, class actions are not a very common way to seek compensation. The problem is that “low-ball” settlements and lawyers charging excessive fees can leave little remaining for everyone in the class action.

Instead of a class action, our attorneys file individual lawsuits. We focus on helping people with the most severe injuries maximize compensation and seek justice from negligent drug-makers. If you were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer from Bydureon, you could be eligible for compensation for your medical expenses — and more.
