BISSELL Recalls Multi-Reach Cordless Vacuums for Fire Hazard
In January 2024, BISSELL recalled about 142,000 BISSELL® Multi-Reach Hand and Floor Vacuum Cleaners because the battery can catch on fire and cause burn injuries.
What Happened?
The problem is that the lithium-ion battery pack on the recalled BISSELL Multi-Reach Hand and Floor Vacuum Cleaners can overheat and catch on fire. Two people suffered minor burn injuries.
BISSELL received 17 reports of the vacuum battery overheating, smoking, and emitting a burning odor. There were 6 reports of the battery catching on fire, including 3 that caused property damage.
How To Identify Recalled BISSELL Vacuums
The recall involves the BISSELL® Multi Reach Hand and Floor Vacuum Cleaners with the following model numbers: 1985, 19851 (also called Multi Auto), 19859, 1985T, 2151, 21512, 21513, 21517, 21518, 21519, 2151A, 2151T, 2151W, 2151V.
They were sold nationwide in the U.S. and Canada between August 2016 and December 2022 at Lowe’s, Macy’s, Kohl’s, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon.com, HSN.com, bissell.com, and other retailers.
BISSELL Recalls Cordless Multi-Surface Wet-Dry Vacuums for Fire Hazard
In early 2023, BISSELL issued multiple recalls for BISSELL® Cordless Multi-Surface Wet Dry Vacuums because the battery can catch on fire.
The original recall in January 2023 involved about 61,000 vacuum cleaners (Models 2551, 2551W and 25519).
There were 66 reports of the battery packs smoking or emitting a burning odor, including 5 reports of fires, and 1 burn injury reported at the time of the recall.
In April 2023, BISSELL expanded the recall to include another 2,000 vacuums (Models 2551R and 25518).
The recalled wet-dry vacuums were sold at Walmart stores nationwide and online from January 2019 through November 2022.
