What is Biaxin?
Biaxin® is the brand-name for clarithromycin, an antibiotic medication that is commonly prescribed to treat strep throat, sinus infections, bronchitis, pneumonia, skin infections, ear infections, and other types of bacterial infections.
FDA Warnings: Study Links Biaxin to Heart Problems & Death
The FDA issued its first warning for Biaxin in December 2005, after early data from the CLARICOR study found an increased risk of death in patients with heart disease who took Biaxin for 14 days.
In February 2018, the FDA issued another warning after additional data from the CLARICOR study showed that the long-term increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and death could continue for many years.
