2.1 Million Fisher-Price Snuga Swings Recalled After 5 Deaths
In October 2024, Fisher-Price recalled more than 2.1 million Snuga Swings after 5 babies suffocated to death when the swing was used for sleep.
In most of the reports, the infants were unrestrained and bedding material (such as blankets) were added to the swing. The recalled Snuga Swings were sold nationwide in the U.S. between 2010 and 2024 at major stores like Target, Walmart, Amazon, and more.
The swings cost $160 new, but Fisher-Price is only offering a $25 refund and urging parents to cut off the headrest (by cutting the tether) and removing the body support pillow insert from the seat pad.
This remedy was called “not good enough to keep babies safe,” according to CPSC Commissioner Richard Trumka. He accused Fisher-Price of putting profits over safety, and warned:
“The product remains unsafe for infant sleep, yet Fisher-Price encourages “continuing to use the swing. My advice: get your $25 refund and then throw this product away; do not keep it in your homes because even after the so-called “repair” this product will still be unsafe for infant sleep.”
Jool Nova Baby Swing Recalled for Suffocation Risk
In March 2024, about 63,100 Jool Nova Baby Swings were recalled because they pose a deadly suffocation hazard if babies fall asleep.
What is the Problem?
Baby swings are not safe for sleep if they have an inclined angle greater than 10º. This is because babies can suffocate to death if they flip over or roll onto their side and get their face trapped against the fabric material of the swing.
Baby swings are not allowed to be advertised for sleep if they have an inclined angle greater than 10º, under the federal CPSC Infant Sleep Products Regulation and the Safe Sleep for Babies Act.
What Jool Baby Swings Were Recalled?
Jool Baby recalled all Jool Nova Baby Swings that were manufactured between June 2022 and September 2023. Parents and caregivers should check the manufacturing date on the sewn-in warning label on the swing seat.
If your baby swing is part of the recall, you can register for a free repair kit at the recall website: https://joolbaby.com/pages/recall.
What Should I Do?
Never allow a baby to sleep in a baby swing. According to Jool Baby, parents may continue to use the swing to keep a baby entertained and engaged, but only if the baby is always supervised.
“However, if your baby falls asleep while in the swing, remove baby and place on a firm, flat surface such as a crib or bassinet. Using the Nova Swing or any product with an angle above 10 degrees is not safe for sleep.”
