In May 2014, the FDA warned that Asset Bold, a popular diet pill, contains sibutramine. This dangerous pharmaceutical ingredient was banned in 2010 over safety concerns, including life-threatening cardiovascular events, interactions with other medications, and withdrawal symptoms.

What is Asset Bold?
Asset Bold is a dietary supplement that is primarily marketed for weight-loss. The manufacturer claims it can also increase energy, boost the immune system, increase metabolism, and more. Asset Bold has been discontinued by its manufacturer and replaced by Asset Bold II.
FDA Finds Illegal Hidden Ingredients in Asset Bold
May 16, 2014 — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is recommending that consumers should not buy or use Asset Bold. While it claims to contain only bee pollen, vitamins, and other natural ingredients, the FDA has discovered that Asset Bold actually contains sibutramine, an illegal pharmaceutical drug.
Earlier this month, the FDA also recalled Asset Bee Pollen, another weight-loss supplement that also contained sibutramine. Last year, the FDA issued similar warnings for Asset Extreme — another product that contained sibutramine.
According to the FDA:
“The product poses a threat to consumers because sibutramine is known to substantially increase blood pressure and/or pulse rate in some patients and may present a significant risk for patients with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, or stroke. These products may also interact, in life-threatening ways, with other medications a consumer may be taking.”
What is the problem?
Sibutramine was originally sold as a prescription diet pill called Meridia. It was pulled off the market in October 2010 over safety concerns. The FDA warned that sibutramine was linked to a 16% increased risk of cardiovascular events compared to a placebo in the SCOUT clinical trial.
Another problem with sibutramine is that has been linked to reports of severe withdrawal symptoms when it is abruptly discontinued. Sibutramine is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor with withdrawal symptoms similar to antidepressants.
