Amazon Fire Pit Lawsuit Filed by Burned Woman

In January 2026, a lawsuit was filed against Amazon by a woman who was severely burned by a tabletop fire pit. Her lawsuit accuses Amazon of selling a defective and unreasonably dangerous product.

The lawsuit was filed by Elizabeth E., a woman from Florida who purchased a POOFZY Tabletop Fire Pit from Amazon in November 2024. The first time she used it was on December 22, 2024.

According to the lawsuit, she and her husband tried to light the fire pit. When the flames appeared to go out, he poured liquid ethanol out of the container into the fire pit reservoir.

This caused a sudden flashback explosion, also called “flame-jetting,” which covered her in burning liquid alcohol. She was severely burned on her face and body.

She suffered “catastrophic” burn injuries, according to the lawsuit. She is seeking compensation for her medical expenses, pain and suffering, permanent scarring and disfigurement, other damages and losses.

Her lawsuit was filed against Amazon and the seller based in China, a company doing business on Amazon under the name “Cenmesy.”

The lawsuit was filed on January 5, 2026 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida (Fort Myers Division) — Case Number 2:26-cv-00015.

What is the Problem?

Amazon is one of the largest retailers of tabletop fire pits in the U.S., with most of the product overseas and imported to the U.S. from China to unsuspecting consumers who have no idea about the risks.

Amazon is facing a growing number of lawsuits involving people who were severely burned by tabletop fire pits. For example, in August 2025, another lawsuit was filed by a woman who was just 17 years old when she was burned by a POOFZY Tabletop Fire Pit from Amazon.

According to her lawsuit, a relative tried to relight the fire pit when the flame appeared to go out. Instaed, “an invisible flame in the fire pit ignited the fuel vapors from the container of rubbing alcohol, which sparked a dangerous explosion called ‘flame jetting.'”

Amazon Warns People Not To Use Tabletop Fire Pits

Amazon has issued several warnings to consumers about the burn and fire hazards associated with tabletop fire pits. The first warning was issued in October 2024, soon after a major recall for COLSEN Tabletop Fire Pits that were sold on Amazon, after 19 reports of severe burn injuries.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has also issued safety warnings for FLIKRFIRE Tabletop Fire Pits that were linked to the tragic deaths of two 93-year-old grandparents when their granddaughter tried to relight the fire pit.

In addition to the deaths, the CPSC said at least 60 reports of burn injuries had been linked to tabletop fire pits. According to the CPSC:

“Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, ethanol/bioethanol, and similar liquid fuels burn with flame temperatures over 1,600°F and can cause third degree burns in less than one second. Igniting a pool of alcohol or other liquid fuel in a fire pit’s open container creates an uncontrollable pool fire, which can suddenly produce larger, hotter flames that can spread beyond the fire pit product.”
