The ALN Optional vena cava filter (IVC) filterThe ALN Optional is a temporary vena cava filter that should be removed when it is no longer necessary. The risk of severe, life-threatening side effects increases the longer it remains implanted.

Overview

ALN Implants manufactures the ALN Optional filter, which is implanted in the inferior vena cava (IVC) to catch blood clots. It is supposed to reduce a patient’s risk of death, but the filter itself has life-threatening side effects.

The ALN Optional has been specifically linked to case reports involving serious complications, including rotating 180º and traveling to the heart or perforating the vena cava and aorta.

The FDA has issued several warnings about IVC filters — especially temporary filters that are not removed. Serious risks include:

  • Fracture of filter legs (“struts”)
  • Migration to other parts of the body
  • Embolization (broken pieces travel in the bloodstream)
  • Organ damage (perforation or laceration of heart, lungs, etc)
  • Severe bleeding
  • Heart problems (cardiac tamponade, pericardial effusion, etc.)
  • Blood circulation problems
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
  • And more

Hundreds of IVC Filter Lawsuits Centralized in Federal Court

Hundreds of lawsuits have been filed by people who were injured by inferior vena cava (IVC) filters. However, these lawsuits are not part of a class action — they are individual lawsuits that have been centralized in federal court against Cook Medical and C.R. Bard.

What is the problem?

The Clark Firm, LLP is nationally recognized as a class action law firm, but our attorneys are not filing a class action lawsuit against the manufacturers of the ALN Optional. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits on behalf of people who were injured by vena cava filters.

About Class Actions

Class actions are designed to help a lot of people at once. Everyone with the same legal claim against the same defendant joins together and collectively seeks compensation. Any compensation awarded is shared equally.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

Class actions are not designed to maximize the payout for people with the most serious injuries. Members may have to accept a “low-ball” settlement or watch attorneys take huge cuts of the payout.

Instead of a class action, our lawyers file individual lawsuits. We focus on helping people with the most serious injuries seek justice and maximize compensation from negligent medical device companies. There is no excuse for selling dangerous devices or failing to warn about risks. If you were injured, you could receive compensation for your pain and suffering, medical expenses, and more.
