E. coli Food Poisoning
The symptoms of an E. coli infection often include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (often bloody), and vomiting. While most healthy adults recover within a week without needing medical care, some people develop a severe complication called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS), which can result in kidney failure, stroke, or death.
Raw Flour Poses Food Poisoning Risk
Health officials are reminding consumers never to eat any raw flour products, such as dough or batter. The problem is that flour is milled from wheat, which is grown outdoors where it is susceptible to being contaminated by bacteria in the environment, including E. coli.
“Consumers are reminded to wash their hands, work surfaces, and utensils thoroughly after contact with raw dough products or flour, and to never eat raw dough or batter.”
