Hundreds of lawsuits have been filed by people with melanoma who used the medication tadalafil, the active ingredient in Adcirca and Cialis, but not as part of a class action. Instead, they are individual lawsuits in one federal court.

Adcirca and Melanoma
Adcirca (tadalafil) is a medication for adults with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. It works by inhibiting an enzyme called PDE5 (phosphodiesterase type-5), which improves blood-flow to the lungs. The problem is that 50% of highly-aggressive melanomas also inhibit PDE5, and studies suggest medications that work in the same way might also promote fast-growing skin cancer.
What is the Risk?
Tadalafil was specifically linked to a 21% increased risk of melanoma in a study published in 2015. Harvard researchers also recently published a study linking PDE5 inhibitors with an 84% increased risk of melanoma skin cancer. The FDA has been investigating the link between Adcirca and melanoma since July 2016.
Melanoma Class Action Lawsuit
Eli Lilly & Co., the company that sells tadalafil in Adcirca and Cialis, is facing a growing number of lawsuits for failing to warn about the risk of melanoma skin cancer. Instead of a class action, they are individual lawsuits that are coordinated under Judge Richard Seeborg.
Tadalafil Skin Cancer MDL
Over 400 melanoma lawsuits were pending in Multi-District Litigation (MDL No. 2691) as of May 15, 2017. The nationwide litigation has been centralized into one federal court in the Northern District of California — In RE: Viagra and Cialis Products Liability Litigation.
What is the problem?
The Clark Firm, LLP is nationally recognized as a class action law firm in Texas, but our attorneys are not currently filing an Adcirca class action lawsuit. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits for people who were diagnosed with melanoma, skin cancer, or basal cell carcinoma.
About Class Actions
Class action lawsuits are useful when a lot of people have a similar legal claim, such as excessive bank overdraft fees. Everyone joins together and collectively seeks compensation through a jury verdict or settlement negotiation. If compensation is awarded, lawyers take a percentage and the rest is divided among everyone who signs up to join the class action.
Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action
Class actions have drawbacks for individual members who have far more serious injuries than the average plaintiff. For example, compensation awarded in a settlement must be shared with everyone in the lawsuit. Members may also have to accept “low-ball” settlements or higher attorneys’ fees.
Our lawyers specialize in holding drug-makers accountable for selling dangerous medications and failing to warn about side effects. If you were diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer, you may be eligible to file a lawsuit and seek compensation for your injuries and medical costs.
