Target Massage Balls Recalled After 17 People Burned

April 5, 2019 — Target has recalled approximately 60,000 microwaveable massage balls after 17 people were burned when the balls leaked hot liquid.

The recall involves approximately 60,000 of the Vivitar® Hot/Cold Massage Balls that were sold exclusively at Target.

There have ben 84 reports of massage balls exploding while they were being microwaved, including 17 reports of people who were burned on various parts of their body, according to the manufacturer.

The recall was issued because the massage balls can leak or break open during or after microwaving, posing a burn hazard to consumers.

The massage balls were sold at Target stores nationwide between December 2018 and February 2019 for about $5.

They were sold in a 2-pack, with one smooth ball and one ball with raised bumps, in colors such as teal, light pink or lavender.

The balls can be identified by the name “Vivitar,” model number, date code, and UPC printed on the bottom of the package.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled massage balls and return them to any Target store for a full refund.
